Obligatory Awkward First Post

I think the first blog post on a brand new domain is the hardest one. When I’m intimidated by an empty page, I’ve found the best thing to do is to just write something, anything. After I’ve managed to spit out the first couple of sentences, it gets easier and easier.

That being said, here we are already in the second paragraph of my first blog post at Powered by Lattes. I’m Kate and I’m excited to get started. We will see where this project goes together because I’m not trying to define it before I even start. I’ve written lots of different blogs, but they have always had a very tight focus or belonged to a company when I was finished. This is the first time I’m giving myself permission to stretch my writing legs a bit and say whatever I feel like saying.

Let me introduce myself: I’m Kate Fassett Shaner and I’m the mom of four kids, one dog, one rabbit, and one very old, senile cat. I’m a tattooed humanist with progressive leanings, although I’m growing weary and wary of identifying with any one side of the political spectrum in our country. I’m a freelance writer, social media strategist, and blogger. I am addicted to caffeine and sugar.

I plan to write about whatever is pressing or interesting in my life, which usually turns out to be cooking for a large family, learning to live with pet hair, the highs and lows of working from home, various ways of ingesting caffeine, my bullet journal, and gamifying my goals. I hope by reading this you can learn something, relate to something, laugh at something, or get excited about something.
